our vision

We, the 2020-2021 E-Board, are beyond committed to this essential task of ensuring that Harambee becomes a force to be reckoned with. This school year, our primary mission is securing its foundation so that it becomes the stable rock that can and will withstand anything that is to come its way—that includes the threats to take it away from us. We aim to continue fostering a stronger sense of community embellished with love, support and room for growth. We believe that this could not only serve as our weapon but also as our shield against an unjust world whose top priority is to often immobilize people who look like us. We are hoping to be one of the many moving parts in helping to accentuate the very best parts about being a Black student at Brown. We are both dedicated and passionate about the impact that our work will undeniably have on the Black community here at Brown.

Harambee’s potential is infinite, but without a unified effort, we cannot even begin to tap into its myriad of possibilities. In other words, the time has truly come for us all to embody what it means to really “all pull together.” As we do our part, we ask the community to also do their part so that we are well equipped to transform all of these incredible ideas and dreams for Harambee into a tangible reality. The reality we are striving for is one where we work to strengthen and improve not only the building itself but also the beautiful community who call it home, and not only for the upcoming year but for years to come.

On the next slide, we have outlined several ideas on how we would like to move forward. This school year will be about putting in that work to make them happen. Although they are merely ideas, they are certainly not impossible to achieve, and we hope that they will take root and flourish with the input and opinion of not only our members but also our entire community coming together. We as an Eboard strive to be peers who value and prioritize everyone’s ideas and criticisms above our own. On that note, we welcome you to come up to any of us if you ever have any advice, questions, concerns, or suggestions. The strengthening of Harambee is a group effort and cannot be done alone.
