Harambee House 

Why you should GET INVOLVED in Harambee House:

 

We at Harambee see it as our duty to help our community. As one of the few prominent spaces for the black community at Brown, we will make sure to uphold the necessary standards to aid, nurture, and host all black students on campus. With that said, the racial climate in America has been especially difficult recently on all members of the diaspora, and we would love to serve as a safe space for all those who may need a break. Upon further development of the space, we would be able to help more students than ever before.

 

We ask for your help so that we are well equipped to transform all of the  incredible ideas and dreams our community has for Harambee into a tangible reality. The reality we are striving for is one where we work to strengthen and improve not only the building itself but also the beautiful community members who call it home, and not only for the upcoming year but for years to come.

 

How you can get involved in our Harambee House Mission:

 

If you would like to aid us on our mission to help black students navigate this institution, there are a variety of ways you can help:

1. KEEP IN CONTACT

   • We will send you periodic updates about Harambee, our events, initiatives, and much more

2. DONATE

   • Donate to the Harambee House Fund

   • Help students acquire the resources they need to flourish in the space: from additional academic resources all the way to improved furniture or bathrooms

   • Further information provided under tab “DONATE”

3. ADVOCATE

   • Communicating the needs of black students to Brown administration via email or in-person meetings

   • Fighting racist/discriminatory practices carried out by the University

   • Working together to further equity and representation for all students​

4. SUPPORT OUR DECOR FUND

   • Help Harambee feel more like a home for Black students, by contributing to our poster fund 

   • Having decor and artwork that is rooted in an Afrocentric aesthetic will aid in students feeling a deep sense of pride in the fact that they can see the richness of their culture adorning the walls of Harambee House.

5. PURCHASE MERCHANDISE

   • Support the House by wearing our merchandise which can only get the word out even more 

   • Generate more revenue for the House allowing us to proceed with activities/events that strengthens our community
