Life in Harambee
Harambee is a warm, energetic, and welcoming environment. Harambee Residents consider each other family, and bond together through house activities, events, initiatives, and various other informal gatherings.
House Activities
Harambee House, at times throughout the year, calls residents to come together for a House Meeting. At house meetings, E-Board gives status reports about current initiatives and announces upcoming events. House Meetings give everyone an opportunity to touch base, eat a meal, and socialize.
Examples of house activities Harambee House members may engage in together outside of the House include various community service initiatives, fun activities including movies and rollerskating, and going out to eat.
Events
Harambee has robust programming to engage its residents. Popular events hosted by Harambee include the BBQs, art shows, parties, video game tournaments, and alumni socials. New Ideas in the works for the future include formals and First-Year meet-and-greets.
In addition to events run by E-Board for House residents, various Student Groups often hold events in Harambee open to the entire community. These events include The Welcome Back BBQ, Fades & Shades, parties hosted by these groups & more.
Student Groups
Harambee is home to many Black student groups on campus. The Black Student Union, The Brotherhood, and AFRISA all meet in Harambee regularly. Additionally, the Brown Christian Ministries hosts a weekly bible study and worship program in Harambee Lounge. Intiatives
Harambee has launched or planned to launch several initiatives to invest in and strengthen the House. Among our top priorities is securing fundraising from our undergraduate community as well as alumni, in line with a key initiative of implementing a socially and economically sustainable model so that the House can continue to thrive in upcoming years.
Harambee is also heavily engaged with the Brown administration in our continued effort to beautify the space, from our living quarters to the common space.
