Since its founding in 1993, Harambee House has served as not only a residential hall but a community center for Black students at Brown. It is a place where many Black students live and grow and is the meeting place for numerous Black student organizations on campus.

Despite the service Harambee provides to the Black community at Brown, we have faced problems with fluctuating membership in recent years. This can be attributed to a variety of factors. Harambee is an old building, and most students would prefer to live in some of the newer, nicer ones on campus. Harambee also does not have the funds to provide the same kind of robust programming and events that other program houses, fraternities, and sororities do on campus. We are aiming to change this, and we need your help to do so.

We are asking you to contribute to the Harambee House Fund. The Harambee House Fund will be used in a variety of ways such as providing new furniture and utilities for the house lounge and kitchen, providing supplies toward the creation of a mural inside Harambee House commemorating its history and the history of Black activism at Brown, and re-energizing the programming offered by Harambee. Your contribution will not only help provide the resources that Harambee House’s talented and driven students need to thrive in the space but also illuminate and venerate Harambee’s illustrious history for years to come, inspiring the students who occupy it.

Please give to the Harambee House fund and make an immediate impact in residents’ lives. By donating you will become inextricably tied to a legacy of excellence, restoration, and resilience.
